Concordia Parish, Louisiana
The Concordia Parish (French: Paroisse de Concordia ) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In the census in 2010, the Parish had 20,822 inhabitants and a population density of 11.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Vidalia, named after Don Jose Vidal, a Spanish officer.
Geography
The Concordia Parish is located northeast of the geographical center of Louisiana, on the east by Mississippi and has an area of 1939 square kilometers, of which 137 square kilometers of water surfaces. It is bordered by the following Parishes and Counties:
History
Concordia Parish was formed in 1807 as one of the 19 original Parishes. It was named after a Spanish military post.

According to the census of 2000, there were 20,247 people in Concordia Parish. Of these, 689 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 7,521 households and 5,430 families. The population density was 11 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 60.75 percent White, 37.72 percent Black or African American, 0.16 percent Native American, 0.24 percent Asian, and 0.55 percent from other races; 0.58 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.48 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 7,521 households out of which 33.0 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 49.0 percent were married couples living together, 19.0 percent were single mothers, 27.8 percent were non-families, 25.3 percent of all households and 11.5 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.12.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 27.8 percent of residents under the age of 18, 8.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 25.6 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.7 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 22,742, and the median income for a family was $ 28,629. Males had a median income of $ 27,453, women $ 18,678. The per capita income was $ 11,966. 24.3 percent of families 29.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. This included 42.0 percent of children and adolescents under 18 years and 20.6 percent of seniors aged 65 years.
