St. James Parish, Louisiana

The St. James Parish (French: Paroisse de Saint- Jacques) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In 2010, the Parish had 22.102 inhabitants and a population density of 34.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Convent.

The Parish is located in southeastern Louisiana, is located in the south about 80 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 668 square kilometers, of which 30 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following Parishes:

History

The St. James Parish was formed on March 31, 1807 as one of the 19 original Parishes. It was named after James, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus.

At the time of formation of St. James was on the west bank of the Mississippi River district capital. 1869 moved to the seat in tonight's Convent.
