Alappuzha district

The district Alappuzha (formerly Alleppey ) is a district in the southern Indian state of Kerala. Council is based in the eponymous city of Alappuzha.

Geography

The Alappuzha District is located on the Malabar coast in the southern part of Kerala. Neighboring districts of Alappuzha Ernakulam are in the north, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta Kollam in the east and the south.

History

The Alappuzha District was founded in 1957, one year after the founding of the state of Kerala, from parts of the districts of Kottayam and Kollam. 1982 parts of District Alappuzha were transferred to the newly formed Pathanamthitta district again.
