Alexander Barrow

Alexander Barrow ( * March 27, 1801 in Nashville, Tennessee, † December 29, 1846 in Baltimore, Maryland ) was an American politician ( Whig Party ), who represented Louisiana in the U.S. Senate.

From 1816 to 1818 Alexander Barrow was educated at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He then studied law and joined the Bar in 1822, after which he practiced first in Nashville. A little later he moved to Feliciana Parish, Louisiana and was there legally operate.

A few years later joined Barrow his law firm to instead be planters. He also became interested in politics and was a first for some years the House of Representatives from Louisiana. In 1840 he was elected for the Whigs in the U.S. Senate, where he remained until his death in December 1846. In the Senate, he served as Chairman of the Committee for public buildings and areas.

His half-brother Washington Barrow was also active as a Whig politician and sat from 1847 to 1849 for Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives.
