Algodres is a comune ( Freguesia ) at the Portuguese circuit ( concelho ) Fornos de Algodres. 349 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011) in her.

History

Probably was the place in 1200 as part of the settlement policy of D.Sancho I in the course of the consolidation of the independent Kingdom of Portugal. King D.Dinis Algodres granted in 1311 for the first time city rights ( Foral ), the King Manuel I in 1514 renewed. 1811 the place to Vila ( town ) has been charged. The previously independent circuit Algodres was united in 1821 with the Fornos and received its present name. Seat was Fornos, which has now expanded to include the additional name de Algodres.

Culture and sights

Next to the old town hall, a small manor house (solar ) and the stone fountain Fonte do Cabeço here are several religious buildings under monument protection, including the originally built in the 12th century parish church Igreja de Paroquial Algodres (also Igreja de Santa Maria Maior ). After several conversions and extensions of the original Romanesque church today shows Mannerist and Baroque elements, especially the Mannerist side altarpieces of gilded wood carving ( Talha dourada ).

Also worth seeing is the built in 1621 Baroque church Igreja da Misericordia de Algodres, with its rococo Seitenretabeln of polished wood, and the side -standing bell tower.

The characteristic whipping post ( Pelourinho ) was created in 1514 as a sign of the renewed city rights by King Manuel I.
