The community Fornos de Algodres has 1627 inhabitants, the whole circuit 4991 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

History

The county was formed in 1836 through the merger of the previously independent existing circle of Algodres with other surrounding towns. 1898 more incorporations were made, including the previously independent circuits Além - Mondego, Juncais and Vila Ruiva.

Culture and sights

The Megalithic cortico de Algodres and Dólmen de Matança can be visited. These are more than 120 historic buildings in the community, including a number of mansions, religious buildings, fountains and monuments. On different, thematically organized hiking and itineraries Roman roads, medieval buildings, geological formations and the nature of the adjoining Natural Park of Serra da Estrela can be explored. A River bath is ideal for swimming and water sports.

The community is nationally known for its cheeses, the da Estrela are attributed to the Queijo Serra.
