Pinhel is a municipality and city of city in Portugal, belonging to the district of Guarda in the subregion of northern, interior Beira, with about 3500 inhabitants.
History
First origins of the city Pinhel be dated by some historians to 5000 BC. 1179 Pinhel was recaptured by Dom Afonso Henriques by the Moors. The district Pinhel got certain rights in 1209 ( Foral ) awarded by Dom Sancho. These rights were confirmed in 1217 by Dom Afonso II and 1282 by Dom Dinis. Dom Manuel made 1510 a new Foral. Pinhel got city rights in 1770 by Dom José and became a bishop by dividing the Diocese of Lamego. 1881, the diocese Pinhel was dissolved and integrated into the diocese of Guarda.
Management
Pinhel is the seat of an eponymous district of a total of 486.15 km ² expansion and 10 954 inhabitants ( 2001). The neighboring districts are (clockwise starting from the north ): Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Almeida, Guarda, Celorico da Beira, Trancoso, Mêda and Vila Nova de Foz Côa.
