Alhama de Granada

Alhama de Granada is one of the cities of the province of Granada in Spain. The city is located in the southwest of the province of Granada and is circled by two sides ( south and west ) of the low-lying in his gorge river Río Alhama.

Etymology

The name Alhama is derived from the Arabic word al - Hamma / الحمة / hot source ' fro. This refers to the hot springs just outside of the city. History

The oldest finds were made in the Cueva de la Mujer ( " The woman's cave "). They date from the Neolithic period. The Romans built in the Iberian town, which they called Artigi, in the first century BC, the first recorded Thermal and Octavian a bridge. El Balneario

The eponymous bathroom is the main attraction Alhamas. It lies about 1.5 km outside of the city on the eponymous river Río Alhama, downstream. The bathroom is integrated into a hotel complex, access ( with guide ) you get a small fee. You can see the modern bathing facilities and the remains of the Roman bath and the Arabic bath which is built over a spring from which gushes continuously 47 ° hot water. The bathing is reserved for hotel guests, the Arabic bath itself not available for use. Outside the hotel is set on the banks of the river a basin, in which the hot water from the spring flows. Here, the bathing is free. A cooling dip in the river, however, is not recommended for reasons of hygiene.
