Ali Sami Yen

Ali Sami Yen ( born March 19, 1886 in Uskudar, Istanbul, Turkey; † 29 July 1951, Istanbul) was a Turkish football coach and sports official. He was the founder of the traditional club Galatasaray.

His father was of Albanian writer Sami Frashëri, one of the most important carrier of the Albanian national movement. Unlike him, Ali Sami Yen chose " a Turkish identity. "

Ali Sami Yen was a student of Galatasaray High School. In October 1905 he decided to start with his friends from high school a sports club. Yen's goal was with the team to play as the English to have a different name and a different color. Ali Sami Yen was from 1905 to 1918 and has since 1925 president of his own club. From 1905-1908, he coached Galatasaray.

Ali Sami Yen was in the years 1926 to 1931 President of the Turkish Olympic Committee and 1923, the first coach of the Turkish national football team.

Ali Sami Yen passed away on July 29, 1951 in Istanbul. The home ground of Galatasaray was dedicated to him.
