Almelo–Salzbergen railway

The railway line Almelo salt mountains is a double-track electrified railway and continuous main line of Almelo in the Netherlands after salt mountains in Lower Saxony. In this case, the border station of Bad Bentheim, the current system change is performed.

History

The railway line Almelo salt mountains was built by the Dutch Spoorweg - Maatschappij Almelo salt mountains to make the connection to the Hanoverian Western Railway of the Royal Hanoverian State Railways, and was opened on 18 October 1865.

The Dutch section from Almelo to Oldenzaal was in 1951, shortly after the Second World War, equipped with an overhead line, against which the usual at the Nederlandse Spoorwegen 1500 V DC.

The German section from Bergen to salt Bad Bentheim contrast was electrified only a quarter of a century later with 15 kV AC voltage and frequency used at the time of 16 ⅔ Hz ( 16.7 Hz today, see traction power ).

With the electrification of the last remaining section on the Dutch side of Oldenzaal ( also 1976) Bad Bentheim to system change station, this can track, the supply can be switched to DC and AC voltage (see system separation point ).

Between 2006 and 2009, was an approximately one -kilometer long piece of track in the city of Almelo, " lowered " to reduce the number of the same level intersections. The Trogbau is called " Almelo Verdiept ".

Operation (2014)

Continuous international trains:

  • Intercity: Berlin - Hannover - Osnabrück - Rheine - Bad Bentheim - Hengelo - Almelo - Amsterdam ( every two hours)

Section salt mountains - Bad Bentheim:

  • Regional train RB 61 " Wiehengebirgs -Bahn " (hourly), operator WestfalenBahn

Section Bad Bentheim - Hengelo:

  • Stoptrein Oldenzaal - Hengelo of Syntus ( every half hour )

Section Hengelo - Almelo:

  • Intercity NS ( every half hour )
  • Sprinter of NS ( every 15 minutes, weekends every half hour )

A re- introduction of the cross-border transport between Hengelo and Bad Bentheim took place on 12 December 2010. The Dutch company Syntus and the German company Bentheim Railway sailed the route every hour as " Grensland - Express". The experiment was limited to three years and ended in December 2013, as the number of users behind expectations remained.
