Amata Kabua

Amata Kabua (* 1928, † December 20, 1996 in Hawaii) was a politician of the Marshall Islands. He was since May 1, 1979 President of the archipelago, and remained there five terms in office until his death.

Kabua began his professional career as a teacher before he became chief of Majuro Atoll. After the proclamation of the Republic, the Parliament elected him as the first president. Kabua was a key negotiator in the struggle for the independence of the Marshall Islands.

He is also responsible for the text and the music of Forever Marshall Islands, the national anthem of the Pacific State responsible.

Kabua died on 20 December 1996 after a long illness. The official business practiced initially as acting Kunio Lemari from. In January 1997 Kabuas cousin Imata Kabua was elected his successor.
