Christopher Loeak

Christopher Loeak ( born November 11, 1952 the atoll Ailinglapalap, Marshall Islands) is elected President of the Marshall Islands.

Life

Christopher Loeak first visited in the capital Majuro Marshall Iceland High School and then studied in the United States on private Hawaii Pacific College and law at the private Gonzaga University. Loeak speaks the Mars Hall Maltese language and English.

Loeak is a longstanding member of Nitijela, the Parliament of the Marshall Islands. He was first elected in 1985 as a representative of the Ailinglaplap Atoll. In the cabinet of President Amata Kabua he was from 1988 to 1992 Minister of Justice. Then he was to death Kabuas 1996 Minister of Social Affairs. Under his successor, Kunio Lemari he was two years minister of education, first under the office since 1997 next president Imata Kabua. This Loeak appointed in 1998 as Minister of the Ralik chain, a chain of islands to the west of the country. In addition to this office, which he held for a year, he was deputy to the President since 1999.

In Parliament Loeak has served on numerous committees. He also took part in the negotiations with the U.S. on the use of a testing ground for missiles on the islands. At the 2007 elections, he was re-elected as representatives of Ailinglaplap into Parliament, Litokwa Tomeing brought him back into the Cabinet in 2008 as his deputy.

On January 3, 2012, a few weeks after the parliamentary elections of 21 September 2011, the nonpartisan Christopher Loeak of the deputies was elected the sixth President of the Marshall Islands. His only rival candidate of the incumbent President Jure long Zedkaia, against whom he could prevail with 21 to 11 votes. The swearing-in of Loeak and the compilation of his Cabinet is expected by mid January 2012. The losing Zedkaia has announced its intention to work constructively with the new government.

Loeak is married and has three children.
