Ambla Parish

Ambla ( German: Traffic ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian county Järva with an area of ​​166.4 km ². It has 2284 inhabitants ( 2010).

In addition to the main town Ambla ( 429 inhabitants) belong to the municipality the villages Aravete, Käravete, Roosna, Jõgisoo, Kurisoo, Raka, Märjandi, clean Evere, Sääsküla, Kukevere, Mägise and Rava ( descending according to the population ordered).

The parish Ambla was founded in 1220 with the Christianization of the native Estonians. The first church was built around 1270 and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. From Latin Amplae Mariae (Great Mighty Mary) the name of the village comes. The Church is the oldest religious building of Central Estonia and with their 1857 built 49.5 -meter-high tower landmark in the community.
