Amont-et-Effreney

Amont -et- Effreney is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Amont -et- Effreney situated at an altitude of 393 m above sea level, 4 km north of Faucogney -et -la -Mer and about 43 km northeast of the city of Vesoul (air line). The scattered settlement municipality extends in the far northeast of the department, in the valley of Breuchin in the southwestern Vosges.

The area of ​​16.83 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plateau landscape criss-crossed by valleys on the western edge of the Vosges. From north to south the area is crossed by the valley of the Breuchin, which provides drainage for Lanterne. The flat alluvial plain is on average 380 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. It is used primarily for agricultural purposes.

The valley of the Breuchin is more than 200 m deep sunk into the surrounding plateau. The steep, mostly forested slopes are broken by several short tributaries of Breuchin. To the east of the municipality floor extends to the edge of the plateau of Esmoulières ( to 625 m). On the west side of the valley is flanked by the heights Les Grandes Rayes and Bois de Châtillon. With 661 m above Effreney reached the highest elevation of Amont -et- Effreney. The plateau is a loose structure of forest, grassland, heathland and bogs. It reaches an average height of 600 m. In hollows there are several small lakes, most of which are of natural origin and during the ice age caused by glacial striation. Some were also dammed and used for fish farming.

Pass the heights partly from sediments that were deposited during the Lias, partly enters the crystalline bedrock evident in geological- tectonic terms. Neighboring communities of Amont -et- Effreney are La Longine in the north, Esmoulières in the east, Faucogney -et -la -Mer, La Voivre and Sainte-Marie - de - Chanois in the south and Saint- Bresson to the west.

History

Is first mentioned Amont -et- Effreney in the year 1091. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Amont -et- Effreney is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs.

Attractions

The Chapel of Saint -Claude in Ferrière -le- Bas was built in the 17th century. Two other chapels there are at Effreney and La Voivre and several Calvaires, including that of Mont- Thither, which is dated to the 16th century. The hamlets are characterized by farmhouses dating from the 17th to the 19th century, showing the traditional style of the region.

Population

With 173 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Amont -et- Effreney one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, a continuous decline in population was recorded (1881 823 persons were still counted ).

Economy and infrastructure

Amont -et- Effreney is still a predominantly by agriculture ( crops and livestock ), forestry and fish farming embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Luxeuil -les- Bains via Faucogney -et -la- Mer to Rupt -sur -Moselle. Further road links exist with Saint- Bresson and Esmoulières.
