La Longine

La Longine is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Longine situated at an altitude of 403 m above sea level, 5 km north-northeast of Faucogney -et -la -Mer and about 44 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the extreme northeast of the department, in the south-western Vosges, at the mouth of Ruisseau de la Montagne in the Breuchin.

The area of ​​12.40 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plateau landscape criss-crossed by valleys on the western edge of the Vosges. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the valley of the Breuchin, which provides drainage for Lanterne. The flat alluvial plain is on average 400 meters and has a width of about 500 meters. It is used primarily for agricultural purposes.

The valley of the Breuchin is more than 200 m deep sunk into the surrounding plateau. To the southeast of the communal land extends to the edge of the plateau of Esmoulières ( to 625 m). To the north, the municipality's area extends into the deep valley also the Ruisseau de la Montagne. This is in the east of the heights of the Roches de la Louviere ( 752 m), bounded on the west by a plateau that separates the valley systems of Breuchin and Combeauté. The plateau is mostly covered with forest (Le Grand and Le Roncey Planot Bois ). With 770 m Bois is achieved the highest peak of La Longine in Planot. On the west part of the valley cut one side of the creek Combeauté to La Longine. Neighboring communities of La Longine are La Montagne in the north, La Rosière and Corravillers in the east, and Esmoulières Amont -et- Effreney in the south and Saint- Bresson and Le Val- D'Ajol in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages La Longine belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since the mid 19th century village life was marked by the weaving, the subsequent textile factory. Today La Longine is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs. The municipality does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish Corravillers.

Attractions

In the center stands a stone cross from the 16th century, is a monument historique classified. The Calvaire in Longine -le-Haut is dated to the year 1724.

Population

With 240 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) La Longine is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​640-760 people, a striking decrease in population was recorded since the early 1960s. Since then, the population has declined by more than 60 %.

Economy and infrastructure

The economic life of La Longine was influenced early on by the textile mill and sawmills. Addition, however, agriculture and forestry had a certain importance. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, especially in the sectors of kitchen equipment, woodworking and precision engineering. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Luxeuil -les- Bains via Faucogney -et -la- Mer to Rupt -sur -Moselle. Further road links exist with Saint- Bresson, Le Val- D'Ajol and La Montagne.
