Les Fessey

Les Fessey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Les Fessey situated at an altitude of 367 m above sea level, 10 km east of Luxeuil -les- Bains and about 35 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northeastern part of the department, in the western foothills of the Vosges, a slight increase on the southern edge of the Talniederung Breuchin.

The area of ​​5.54 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plateau landscape criss-crossed by valleys on the western edge of the Vosges. The northern border is in the middle of the valley of Breuchin, the multiple turn it flows through Alluvialniederung to the west. The flood plain is on average 345 m and has a width of about two kilometers wide.

From the river, the municipality's area extends southward over the Talniederung up to the height of the adjacent Plateau des Mille Étangs. The landscape is divided into valleys and hilltops ( Haut de la Côte, 429 m; Monts Chetons, 439 m). It shows a loose structure of pasture and forest. In hollows are numerous small lakes which are mostly natural origin and during the ice age caused by glacial striation. Some ponds have been created by the monks since the 11th century for fish farming. With 486 m is achieved at the level of the Grande Forêt the highest elevation of Les Fessey. In geological- tectonic terms, the plateau is composed of crystalline bedrock. On the plateaus there are glacial deposits from the Pleistocene. In some places, is also evident sandstone of the Lower Triassic. On the south of the municipality extends to the valley floor of the Lanterne. The entire municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

Les Fessey consists of the following districts:

  • Les Fessey lingerie ( 353 m) on the southern edge of the valley of Breuchin
  • Les Fessey -Dessus ( 367 m) just above the valley of Breuchin
  • Les Granges- Fouillots ( 433 m) on the Plateau des Mille Étangs

Neighboring municipalities of Les Fessey are Sainte- Marie- de - Chanois in the north, La Voivre to the east, La Lanterne -et -les- Armonts, Belmont and La Corbières to the south and La Proiselière -et- Langle in the West.

History

Is first documented Les Fessey in 1254th The place name derives from the Latin personal name Festius. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. The current name of locality is officially only since 1962; previously mentioned, the community Fessey - lingerie -et -Dessus. Today Les Fessey is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs. It belongs to the parish of Sainte -Marie- de - Chanois and does not have its own church.

Attractions

Among the natural attractions of the region include the Pierre Mourey ( a foundling from the Vosges ) and the many small lakes, heathland and moorland.

Population

With 124 inhabitants (2007 ) Les Fessey one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 318 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Les Fessey is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), forestry and fish farming embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Breuchotte to La Voivre. Further road links exist with Sainte -Marie- de - Chanois and La corbière.
