Amravati ( Marathi: अमरावती, Amravati, also Amrawati or Amraoti ) is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the capital of the district of Amravati and has about 650,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ).

Amravati is located in the Deccan plateau at 343 meters above sea level. NN, about 155 kilometers west of Nagpur. Through the city goes to the National Highway 6 ( Surat - Kolkata ), Mumbai- Howrah rail line is located about 10 kilometers south. Amravati has as main industry, the cotton processing. The plant is grown in the nearby plains of the rivers Purna and Wardha.

Amravati is the seat of the Diocese of Amravati.
