Ancerville (Meuse)

Ancerville is a commune with 2752 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meuse in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Bar-le -Duc and is capital of the canton Ancerville.

Geography

The community Ancerville located 20 kilometers south-west of Bar -le- Duc and just east of the town of Saint- Dizier on the extreme western border of Lorraine to Champagne-Ardenne region at an altitude 147-251 m above sea level. In the south of the municipal area of the Canal entre Champagne et Ancerville Bourgogne runs parallel to the Marne, which forms the border with the region of Champagne -Ardenne here.

History

The town's name derives from the Latin Anselmvilla, the place itself was first mentioned in 1180.
