Bure (Meuse)

Bure is a commune with 89 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Meuse in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The municipality is located on the upper Orge, a tributary of the Saulx in the south of the department of Meuse, about 33 kilometers southeast of Bar-le- Duc and 64 kilometers southwest of Nancy. The southwestern boundary of the parish is also the border with the department of Haute- Marne.

Approximately 1.5 kilometers south of the village center being built on an open field, the nuclear waste disposal Bure ( Rock Laboratory ). Since 2000, the French nuclear waste authority ANDRA examines the suitability of the 130 meter thick clay sediment - Stocks, extending here. Another positive factor is the low population density. Protests of local residents went so far does not go beyond purely local character. Both ANDRA and the local government try with massive financial allocations to prevent the resistance of the population in the poor and populous region lagging.
