André Pilette

André Pilette ( born October 6, 1918 in Paris, † 27 December 1993 in Etterbeek ) was a Belgian Formula 1 and sports car racing driver.

André came from a motor sport-loving family, his father Theodore Pilette denied in the years before the First World War Grand Prix in a Mercedes, reaching in 1913 a fifth place finish at the Indianapolis 500 also Andrés son Teddy Pilette was in the 1970s, a successful racers.

André began his motorsport career in the years after the Second World War, first with Belgian sports car racing. Away Over 15 years, his career lasted for Formula 1 and sports car racing, in most cases, he took up as a private driver and reached in view of its inferior material respectable results.

After the early years at Talbot and Connaught he joined the Gordini team, for whom he scored his fifth in 1954 as the best Formula 1 result at the GP of Belgium. A serious accident while training for the GP of Germany 1956 stopped his career for more than two years. Pilette also had ties to Ferrari. He started for the Italians in the 24- hour race at Le Mans and a fourth in 1959 and 1960 could even reach a second place.

In contrast to his sports car career Pilettes was more Formula 1 career debakulös. Obviously, only that his interest in racing drove him to compete with totally inferior brands like Emeryson or Scirocco or a discarded Lotus; Successes were granted to him no more.

In 1964, he finished his career final and became the head of a racing school in Zolder.
