Andy Hilbert

Andy Hilbert ( born February 6, 1981 in Howell, Michigan ) is an American professional ice hockey player who is since August 2010 with the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League under contract and currently for their farm team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, in the American Hockey League.

Career

Andy Hilbert began his career as a hockey player in the team of the U.S. National Team Development Program, for which he was active from 1997 to 1999. Then the attacker spent two years playing for the University of Michigan. During this time he was in the second round than a total of 37 players selected during the NHL Entry Draft in 2000 by the Boston Bruins. In his four years in Boston Hilbert could never prevail finally, so that he always completed less than 20 games per season and the rest of the season in Boston's farm team, the Providence Bruins, spent in the American Hockey League. During the lockout in the 2004/ 05 NHL season Hilbert stood in the entire AHL season for Providence on the ice.

In November 2005, the Boston Bruins gave the Americans from the Chicago Blackhawks, which further sent him Deadline for the Pittsburgh Penguins nearing the end of the trade. Despite 18 scorer points, including seven goals in 19 games for Pittsburgh Penguins Hilbert left the end of the season again and signed in the summer of 2006 as a free agent contract with the New York Islanders, for whom he had three seasons running. After spending the 2009/10 season with the Houston Aeros and the Minnesota Wild, Hilbert signed in August 2010, a temporary one-year contract with the New York Islanders and thus returned back to his old stamping ground.

Internationally

For USA Hilbert took part in the U18 World Youth Championship in 1999 and the Junior World Championships in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Furthermore, Hilbert was in the squad of the U.S. in the A World Championships in 2002, 2004 and 2006.
