Andy Smith (darts player)

Andy Smith ( born June 22, 1967 in Bromsgrove, England ) is an English darts player, who is currently in the PDC under contract. His nickname is The Pieman, which goes back to his baker training, and he uses Eat it by Weird Al Yankovic as a running music.

Career

His greatest successes so far recorded Smith at so-called "floor events" (not televised tournaments with dartboards ). From this he was able to win five.

In the BDO England Open he could decide the Welsh Open and the Norway Open for themselves. He then moved to the PDC. His victories in the Scottish and South - West Regional Finals authorized him to take part in the UK Open in 2005, and later he qualified for the Las Vegas Desert Classic, but he left already out in the first round.

For the PDC World Championship 2006 konnteSmith not qualify directly, because he received no place 33rd in the world rankings. However, he was still allowed to participate by the PDPA tournaments yet. He reached after beating Colin Monk ( 3-0) and Ray Carver (4:3) the first knockout round, but lost 2:4 against Alan Warriner -Little.

By October 2007, Smith was able to enter any other tournament victories in the Pro Tour when he won the PDPA in Irvine Scottish Players Championship against James Wade. The Players Championship in June 2009 in Dinslaken he could decide for themselves. He threw in the quarterfinals a nine-darter in the final, defeating Colin Lloyd.

In the PDC World Championships 2008, 2009 and 2010, Smith lost three times in the first round, after he had been defeated in the second round Andy Jenkins 2007, 2:4. In 2008 he was defeated Mensur Suljovic, 2009 Tony Ayres and 2010 Darin Young. Only in 2011 he could again get beyond the first round when he first defeated Shane Tichowitsch 3-1 Andy Hamilton 4-3. In the second round he lost to then, however, the eventual finalists Gary Anderson with 0:4.

In June 2011, he won the Bobby Bourn Memorial Players Championship 6-2 against Dave Chisnall Legs. Previously, he defeated Wayne Atwood 6-5, 6-5 James Richardson, Alan Tabern 6-3 and Andy Hamilton 6-2. In the quarterfinals, he then turned off Gary Anderson 6-1, and in the semifinals he sat down with 6:3 against James Wade. In the final he then threw two twelve- and thirteen- darter.

At the World Championship 2012 he was defeated again in the first round, this time against Scott Rand 0-3, and could not win a single leg. Similarly unsuccessful was the World Cup in 2013, when he again lost with 1:3 in the first round against Northern Ireland's Daryl Gurney.
