Angern an der March is a market town with 3298 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district Gaenserndorf in Lower Austria.

Geography

It lies at the northern edge of the March field and at the same time at the southern end of the wine district, about 40 kilometers northeast of Vienna. The border Morava river separates the town of Slovakia. Previously joined a bridge the two countries and for some years there is a ferry, but in the case of high water - must be blocked - which is usually caused by melting snow and heavy rain. In 2007, the construction of a new road bridge was decided. The originally planned start of construction in 2010 could not be met.

History

Angern an der March was first mentioned in 1260 as Anger documented.

The market rights was first mentioned in 1465 and the second time in 1819. It was established in 1970 newly awarded. The local castle Angern was destroyed in 1945 and later removed entirely. Today only represents a small part of the wall as a reminder.

In October 2007, a referendum on the construction of a new bridge between Záhorská Ves and Angern was held. Were entitled to vote all the inhabitants of the entire greater community Angern ( Angern, Manner village, Ollersdorf, Stillfriedplatz - Grub ). 60 % voted for the construction of the bridge.   • Leopold Abraham, former mayor, was Austria and internationally known for the mining disaster in the summer of 1998 in Lassing (Styria ).   • Roland Minkowitsch (1920-1986), farmer and politician ( ÖVP).
