Hohenruppersdorf

Hohenruppersdorf is a market town with 901 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district Gaenserndorf in Lower Austria.

Geography

Hohenruppersdorf located in the hills of eastern wine district in Lower Austria, about three per kilometer east of Bad Pirawarth and Gaweinstal. The area of ​​the municipality covers 21.4 square kilometers. 30.1 percent of the area is forested.

History

Hohenruppersdorf was first documented in the year 1170. 1324 is the first time a market witnessed. Hohenruppersdorf was raised to the parish in 1347 and was initially the Charterhouse Wall Bach incorporated. The place was originally surrounded by a wall and served in the 14th, 17th and 18th century as a refuge.

Culture and sights

The cemetery is surrounded by a baroque parish church of the Holy Cross was built in the years 1788-1790. The church tower is medieval in the core. North of the church in 1508, donated the former charnel house is preserved as a tomb room.

The City Council of Hohenruppersdorf is also baroque, but was considerably remodeled later. On the main square a Trinity Column is from the year 1713.
