Antikenfestspiele

The Antiquity Festival in Trier were, by the then Mayor Jürgen Grabbe, as well as the former director of the Trier city theater, Heinz Kindermann Luke into being in 1998. For performance were works from the musical theater and drama that content back to ancient materials. The Antikenfestspiele found a year by 2010 in the period June-July as part of the cultural summer Rhineland-Palatinate place and were accompanied by an antiques Symposium at the University of Trier.

After the Antikenfestspiele times were renamed as limited liability company and they were recently re-connected the theater Trier.

2009, the festival of the city was canceled for financial reasons. During the forced break, the festival director came up with a new concept. In 2010 the festival was held for the last time, this resulted in a decline of around 220,000 euros. In November 2010, the city councilors decided not to continue the Antiquity Festival. The event had in spite of high artistic quality can not establish a sufficient degree. For the city of Trier is not responsible for them in view of their high debt further funding.
