Aquarium (MBTA-Station)

Aquarium is a named after the nearby New England Aquarium subway station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) in Boston's Financial District in the state of Massachusetts in the United States. It is located in close proximity to the ferry Long Wharf and offers access to the Blue Line.

History

Already opened in 1901, the Atlantic Avenue Elevated had a stop on State Street. Opened in 1904, the East Boston tunnel in 1906 was followed by the station Aquarium - albeit under the name Atlantic Avenue - and joined the elevated train to the tunnel. On February 13, 1967, the station was renamed as part of the takeover by the MBTA in the aquarium.

Building

The metro station is located at the address 183 State Street and is completely accessible. As the only subway station of the MBTA, the underground construction has comparatively high, vaulted ceilings, as they also have the Paris Métro or the Washington Metro. Aquarium is the lowermost underground station of the Blue Line, as it is located on a site of the East Boston tunnel, which goes under the Boston Harbor. Even deeper is the only station Porter Red Line in Cambridge.

At the station there is a connection to a bus route and on the nearby Long Wharf four ferry routes in MBTA.
