State Street (Boston)

State Street is one of the oldest streets in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It is 2,600 ft ( 792.5 m) long and runs from the junction of Washington Street and Court Street in an easterly direction past the Old State House and Boston Custom House to Long Wharf, where connection is made to the ferries of the MBTA. Underground parallel to the road is the metro Blue Line, which is accessible via the stations Aquarium and State.

History

Already the first Puritan settlers built their houses along the former Market Street, which until 1788 was called the King Street from 1708. During the Revolutionary War it was given its current, non - royalist name and is now known particularly as a location for banks and financial companies.
