Ted-Williams-Tunnel

The Ted Williams Tunnel ( English Ted Williams Tunnel ugs, even Williams Tunnel ) is next to the Sumner Tunnel and Callahan Tunnel is one of three highway tunnels beneath Boston Harbor in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It represents the last part of the Massachusetts Turnpike and I-90 and connects the district of South Boston with Logan International Airport. Was named the tunnel after the former U.S. baseball player Ted Williams.

Background

The Ted Williams Tunnel was the first major transit route, which was built as part of the Big Dig. It consists of 12 steel sections, which were prefabricated in Baltimore and then transported to the building site. He was provided with a concrete shell. Shortly after his inauguration in 1995, he was initially only authorized vehicles available in order not to let the traffic load during the further ongoing construction work on the Big Dig to rise sharply. Only in 2003, so eight years after its opening, it was the I-90 opened permanently in the course of completion for all types of vehicles.
