Tremont Street

The Tremont Street is a 3.3 mi ( 5.3 km ) long thoroughfare through the Boston neighborhoods Government Center, Mission Hill and the South End in the state of Massachusetts in the United States.

History

The street name goes back to a hill with three surveys (English Trimountaine ), of which today only the Beacon Hill exists. As time has worn away with the Cotton Hill and Mt Whoredom a large part of the original hill to make room for land and fill with the material the Shawmut Peninsula.

Route

The Tremont Street begins close to the MBTA subway station Government Center in the same district as a one-way street in a southerly direction as a junction of Cambridge Street and Court Street. It runs along the eastern border to the Boston Common past the Tufts Medical Center and bends behind the Eliot Norton Park for about 90 m to the west to lead at the next junction immediately to the southwest over the Massachusetts Turnpike.

From the junction with Berkeley Street Tremont Street is parallel to Huntington Avenue in a southwesterly direction. It crosses among other elements the Massachusetts Avenue and is reported from the confluence of the Columbus Avenue as Massachusetts Route 28. At the intersection of Malcolm X Boulevard she turns to the northwest and finally ends at Brigham Circle on Huntington Avenue.
