Massachusetts Route 2A

The Massachusetts Route 2A is a 98.46 mi ( 158.5 km ) long state highway in the state of Massachusetts in the United States History of the West ( beginning in Greenfield ) to the east ( end in Boston ). The route is identical in parts of the former course of the route 2, which was in these places repositioned or upgraded. The Route 2A led to 2007 in a westerly direction until after Shelburne Falls in Buckland, but was then shortened to Interstate 91 in Greenfield.

Route

The route begins in Greenfield at the roundabout connection to Interstate 91 and Route 2 From there, the road leads through the city center, to unite at the city limits to Gill again with the main route (Route 2). After 12.6 mi ( 20.3 km ), the route leaves the 2A Route 2 and runs through Orange and Athol, where it passes the former end of Route 21, which was reduced after the construction of the Quabbin reservoir until after Belchertown. The route continues over Phillipston and Westminster, where it crosses the Route 2 more times. In Fitchburg, the road bears at the same time, several other numbers and is partially identical with the route in Lunenburg 13 in Shirley finally crossed the border into Middlesex County.

North of Fort Devens take the Route 2A in Ayer and from there continue to Littleton, where it provides access to Interstate 495. From there it turns south to Acton and Concord, to then rejoin the main route. North of Walden Pond it branches off again and goes through the Minuteman National Historical Park along the Great Road, which already used the British troops during the battles of Lexington and Concord. Following the Route 2A provides access to I- 95 and Route 128 and continues through Lexington and Arlington, where she is identical with U.S. Highway 3. After this, the Massachusetts Avenue on Alewife Brook Parkway leaves again, the route continues through 2A Cambridge and along the Harvard Yard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. On Memorial Drive where the route crosses U.S. Highway 3 and Route 3 and cross over the Harvard Bridge Charles River. In Boston, the route 2A ends on Commonwealth Avenue at the junction of Route 2 or to U.S. Highway 20
