Day Boulevard

The William J. Day Boulevard, or shortly Day Boulevard, is a parkway in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. The road is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and is part of the Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston.

Route

The road begins at Morrissey Boulevard and Kosciuszko Circle in northern Dorchester. From there, the Parkway runs over a length of 2.6 mi (4.2 km) in a north-easterly direction through the district of South Boston beaches along the western and northern Dorchester Bay. In its eastern range, the road runs through the South Boston Boat Clubs Historic District and the Marine Park before ending at the Castle Iceland peninsula.

History

The Day boulevard was originally the name Strandway and had the time of construction in the late 19th century, intended to form the easternmost part of the Emerald Necklace, which was created by Frederick Law Olmsted. Plans to connect the Franklin Park on a plane passing through Dorchester Parkway called Dorchesterway with the Strandway were not implemented, so the route was known as Columbia Road. The southern of the two roads, which formed the Columbia Road, was renamed in 1950 in honor of a deceased this year known politician from South Boston, William J. Day Boulevard. William Day was the father of politician Louise Day Hicks, who represented from 1971 to 1973 South Boston in the United States Congress.
