The area Mystic River Reservation is a public -owned, be designated as a state park nature reserve along the Mystic River in eastern Massachusetts in the United States. It is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and is part of the Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston. The park is part of the 75 mi ² ( 194.25 km ²) large catchment area of ​​the Mystic River and is located on the urban areas of Winchester, Arlington, Medford, Somerville, Everett and Chelsea.

History

The protected area originally comprised slightly more than 240 acres ( 100 ha) of land surface and was gradually enlarged. In the early 20th century most of the land came along the Mystic River in Medford, Arlington and Somerville in public (ie government ) owned and currently manages the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR ).

Description

To reserve includes the four parks Draw Seven Park ( Somerville ), Torbert MacDonald Park ( Medford ), Mystic Lakes (Winchester, Arlington, and Medford ) and Mary O'Malley Waterfront Park ( Chelsea). The site is open every day from sunrise to sunset freely accessible.

In 2010, with the Mystic River Master Plan, the DCR published a concept for the restoration and to further protect the area. The proposed projects included, among other things, a partnership between the DCR and the City of Medford to restore the Condon Shell ( an open-air amphitheater near the Medford Square ) and the Amelia Earhart Dam Basin Parklands. Likewise, financed with 3.6 million U.S. dollars from the U.S. federal budget connecting path between the protected area, the Minuteman Bikeway and the MBTA station was provided in Alewife.
