Aragarças

Aragarcas is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Goiás in the mesoregion Northwest Goiás and in the same micro-region Aragarcas. It is located west of the Brazilian capital Brasília and west-northwest of the capital, Goiânia.

Geographical breakdown

Aragarcas together with Barra do Garças and Pontal do Araguaia a cohesive, urban settlement area. The municipality is situated on the eastern bank of the Araguaia River, the border river between Goiás and Mato Grosso, at the mouth of his left tributary Rio Garças, the border river between Pontal do Araguaia and Barra do Garças. Two bridges, the Brazilian federal highway BR -070 connect the three communities.

History

As a first invaded in 1872 Diamond viewfinder before in the area of Araguaiana. They were massacred by the resident indigenous tribe of the Bororo. 1933 encouraged the news of the discovery of huge diamond stones of many miners to depart in the interior.

As of the 1940 years Aragarcas was the starting point for the movement march westward ( Portuguese: Marcha para o Oeste), which was proclaimed by the government of President Getúlio Vargas. The goal of the movement was (then called hinterland ) the cultivation and development of the then largely unknown and isolated Midwestern Brazil. 1943 Expedition Roncador - Xingu was founded, whose base was in Aragarcas. The expedition was founded in the same year the Foundation Central Brazil ( Portuguese: Fundação Brasil Central ( FBC ) ) assumes its objective was the establishment of settlements.
