Art Club
The Art Club (also: artclub ) was a Viennese artist association of the postwar period.
History
The Art Club was ( according to other sources 1947) founded in 1946 as one of the most advanced platforms for young painters, sculptors, writers and musicians in the struggle for the autonomy of modern art. Kurt Moldovan was a founding member of the Austrian section of the Art Club.
Meeting were the studios of Maria Biljan - Bilger, Heinz Leinfellner, Wander Bertoni and Susanne Wenger, but also the Cafe Raimund, the Glory Cafe, espresso Stanbul, the cafe Falstaff and the straw suitcase.
President and prominent mentor of the group was Albert Paris Gütersloh. Propagator of the group activities was Alfred Schmeller. Exhibitions of the Art Club were usually held in the Zedlitzhalle or in the Vienna Secession. For a long time the artistic appearance of the Art-Club was marked by peaceful coexistence of Surrealists ( Vienna School of Fantastic Realism ) and the abstract. Wieland Schmied believed that the multiple generous help of Rudolf Carl was made possible by Ripper for events organized by the Art Club, by intelligence agents of the CIA.
The Art Club disbanded in 1959.
