Arthaz-Pont-Notre-Dame

Arthaz -Pont -Notre -Dame is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Arthaz -Pont -Notre -Dame is located on 478 m above sea level. M., 11 km east-southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village is located in the Arve Valley, on a plateau, which is surrounded by the Arve and the Menoge.

The area of ​​5.96 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the lower Arvetals. The 0.5 to 2 km wide plateau of Arthaz forms a groundwater- rich gravel plain. Over time the rivers Arve and Menoge have sunk by erosion in this level and the creation of approximately 50 m deep valleys. In these uninhabited valleys of the rivers are largely preserved in their natural state. The Arve forms the municipal boundary to the south and west, while the northern boundary runs along the Menoge. In the far west, the two rivers unite. History

Arthaz is first mentioned in 1275 under the name Artas; later the name Arethaz la Fourche appear in the documents. In 1813, the previously independent municipalities Arthaz and Pont -Notre -Dame merged to form the new municipality Arthaz -Pont -Notre -Dame, after ten years earlier, the parishes were merged already.

Attractions

The church was built in Sardinian style 1841. From the 14th century, the Château de Baudry comes with its three towers.

Population

With 1287 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Arthaz -Pont -Notre -Dame is one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1960s, a continuous increase in population was recorded. Outside of the old village created numerous houses.
