Aşkale is a town and administrative center of the homonymous district in the Turkish province of Erzurum. The town has 11,455 inhabitants Aşkale and the county 25 027 (2008 ). Aşkale is located in the west of the province and borders the provinces of Erzincan and Bayburt. The district is predominantly inhabited by Turks, and there are also Kurdish Alevis.
