Atarisoft

AtariSoft was a brand name of the former American computer game manufacturer Atari, were marketed under the video games for the then competing systems by Coleco, Mattel, Apple, Texas Instruments, Commodore, IBM, Sinclair and Acorn.

General

Atari marketed under the brand AtariSoft 1983-1984 about 20 games that were previously as an arcade machine or video game very successful and where Atari held the rights. The ports of these games, however, were not developed by Atari, but programmed by independent developers and companies only sold under the brand name AtariSoft. This also meant that the same games have been implemented for different platforms in different quality, which was not only the technical skills of the target systems.

For each supported by AtariSoft target system a particular color has been used, for example, violet for the VC 20 or green for the C 64 The packaging of the games were mainly printed with this color boxes, on which stood AtariSoft only in a simple copy of the game titles, the target system and the lettering. Exclusively in the upper right corner could be seen a small part of the artwork, which is typically used on his Atari game machines or boxes for games of their own systems.

The name AtariSoft as a brand for sales of games for competing systems in 1984 abandoned when Atari was sold by Warner Communications to Jack Tramiel, former founder of Commodore. Only in Great Britain and France still some titles were published in 1985 under this brand, but this itself for the 8 -bit Atari computers
