Athena (Band)
Athena is a Turkish thrash metal and ska - punk band from Istanbul. The permanent band members are the twin brothers Gökhan and Hakan ÖZOGUZ ( born October 11, 1976 in Istanbul).
History
The twins Gokhan and Hakan ÖZOGUZ began in 1987 to make music together. With Punished Society there were in 1991, the first recordings, in 1993 appeared the first unofficial album One Last Breath. At this time, Athena was still playing thrash metal. Over the next few years, Athena coverte many ska - pieces during their many concerts, which were very well received by the Turkish audience, although Ska in Turkey at that time was still very unknown. In 1998, Athena the first regular album in the cast with Gökhan as a singer, Hakan as a guitarist, a bassist and Turgay Ozan Karacuha Gülaydın as drummer. Titled it was Holigan. Then is heard ska-punk with mostly Turkish, English lyrics rare, seasoned with oriental sounds and a hint of Oi! Punk. Some of the pieces, such as Tarlaya Ektim sogan or Yaylanın Çimenine, are traditional Turkish songs that were arranged as ska -punk songs. The song Devam ... Boşver can also be found on the compilation United Colors of Ska Vol 3. With the next album Tam Zamani Şimdi 2001 Athena contributed a title as a supporter or Anfeuerungssong for the Turkish national basketball team, namely On İki Dev Adam.
Followed in 2002 by the third work entitled Hersey yolunda. As a representative of the host country represented Athena Turkey in the Euro Vision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul, entitled For Real and finished fourth. For Real was a Top 20 hit in Greece. Shortly thereafter, the U.S. album on which a Turkish version of the Euro Vision contribution is included appeared. In Germany Athena seen in 2004 as the opening act of the doctors.
In 2005, the self-titled fifth album was released Athena. From 2013 Gökhan is a jury member of the Turkish talent show O Ses Türkiye.
Personal
In February 2007, Athena gave a concert in Amsterdam a hiatus known as Gökhan ÖZOGUZ draw for a few months for language training in London and his brother Hakan Ozan and ÖZOGUZ Musluoğlu should begin their military service. The twins Gokhan and Hakan ÖZOGUZ are cousins of Turkish German politician Aydan Özoguz, as well as by Yavuz and Gürhan Özoguz.
