Autet

Autet is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Autet situated at an altitude of 195 m above sea level, 13 km north-east of Gray and about 42 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the département, in the valley of the salon, on the northern edge of the valley of the Saône.

The area of ​​11.35 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Saône Valley. The eastern boundary runs mostly along the Saone, which flows here with large loops through a wide Alluvialniederung to the west. The flood plain is on average 195 m and has a width of about 1.5 kilometers wide. The river is channeled and expanded to waterway. South of Autet ranges of communal land on the left side of the Saône River, the border along a bayou runs. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward over the Talniederung and a 30 m high, steep slope down to the adjacent plateau. It is bisected by which a kilometer wide Talniederung of the salon, which opens below Autet in the Saône. The plateau consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic period and is located at 230 m. On the plateau dominates agricultural use, but there are also some forest areas. In the north, the area extends into the Grand Bois, in the 248 meters, the highest elevation is achieved by Autet.

Neighboring communities of Autet are Dampierre- sur-Salon and Vaite in the north, Savoyeux and Mercey -sur -Saône in the east, Beaujeu -Saint -Vallier- Pierrejux -et -Quitteur in the south and Vereux in the West.

History

Remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement site point to an early settlement of the municipality. In the castle park a burgundy grave was discovered in 1855, which contained rich grave goods. The name changed with the passage of time from Auter about Austel, Aultet and Authey the present Autet, which is attested since 1682. In the Middle Ages Autet belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local rule was for the barons of Fouvent. With the invasion of the Protestants under the Duke of Zweibrücken in 1569 the village was devastated. During the Thirty Years' War Autet 1637 was again heavily affected and numerous residents who had been hiding on an island in the Saône killed. Together with the Franche -Comté Autet came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Autet is a member of the 42 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières.

Attractions

The Church of Autet originates from the 14th century. From this time, the Gothic choir is obtained while the transept in the 16th century was built. In the 18th and 19th centuries were added to the nave and side chapels as the construction and expansion. The palace with a monumental portal was built in the 18th century and restored in 1961 after a fire. The covered Lavoir, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle, was built in 1830. About the Salon performs a restored fünfbogige stone bridge.

Population

With 312 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Autet to the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 417 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded during the 1960s and 70s again. Since then, the population has continued to decline.

Economy and infrastructure

Autet has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. The water power of the salon was formerly used for the operation of mills. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Dampierre- sur-Salon by Beaujeu. Further road links exist with Vereux and Seveux. Autet has a station on the disused railway line from Vesoul to Gray.
