Authumes

Authumes is a commune in the Bourgogne Saône -et -Loire. It belongs to the district Louhans, for Canton Pierre -de- Bresse and community association Canton de Pierre -de- Bresse. The village has 262 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). The inhabitants are Authumois, respectively. Called Authumoises. Jokingly, the residents are r'noillats ( Frog in patois ), called in memory of the days when the farmers had to hit the water in the moat with rods, so that the mistress was not disturbed by the croaking of frogs in the bedroom.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the northern border of the landscape of Bresse on the banks of the Doubs, of the total area is about 40 % covered with forest. The commune includes the following hamlets: Bois, Crotte, Faubourg, Forêt, Fay, Grands- Prés, Hays, Hauts -et -Bas, Malatière, Pérouse, Quenoncère, Ramouille, Rippes -Saint -Paul.

Etymology

The name comes from the Gallo- Roman settlement time back, originally altus tumulus, with the importance of a high hill.

History

Authumes bordering the Free County and is located on the edge of the Bresse, on a small ridge, called Tertre (small hill ). In the area remains have been found of Roman buildings, broken glass and items, including a small bronze statuette. Let the found objects suggest that a Gallo-Roman settlement was here, which was destroyed by the invading Franks. The parish was affiliated with a fraternity. There was a leprosarium, after which the old field name La Malatière points.

1302 sold a Jean de Vienne all his possessions in Authumes to a Count Robert. The barony belonged to the kingdom of Philip the Good, the Authumes his chancellor Nicolas Rollin bequeathed. The place had a city wall with two gates and a castle with towers. The castle dates back to the year 950, was extended and strengthened under Rollin. Due to the boundary layer, the population had to suffer much during the Hundred Years War, the castle finally was razed, destroyed the houses and built the settlement on the present site again.

By Nicolas Rollin Philipote his daughter inherited the rule Authumes that they in turn bequeathed to Anne d' Oiselet, wife of Emart Bouton, chamberlain to the Duke of Burgundy and market Vogt of Chalon -sur -Saône. Charles Bouton in 1534 sold the reign of Authumes to Philippe Chabot, Admiral of France. 1666 had Catherine de Neuville, Countess of Armagnac, the rule Authumes.

The fountain is of Trois- Rois ( Three Kings Fountain ) Between the cemetery and the village. There wont the parents to bring the sick with scrofula children before they prayed in the Church and votive offerings donated.

Infrastructure

In the village there is a church (1686 built, dedicated to the Nativity of Mary ), a Mairie ( Municipal House ), a multipurpose hall, a market garden, car garage and two farms. With daily consumer goods to supply the locals in neighboring Pierre -de- Bresse ( 3 km). When Etang de Fay is a public picnic area.
