Autoramas

Autoramas is a Brazilian rock band from Rio de Janeiro. It combines in their danceable rock music influences from beat, rockabilly, surf, punk, and New Wave. They sing in English, but mostly in Portuguese.

Band History

Gabriel Thomaz 1988 founded the rock band Little Quail and The Mad Birds in his hometown of Brasília, and was noticed as a songwriter, as for Raimundos and Ultraje a Rigor. After the dissolution of his band in 1996, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where in 1997 he founded the band Autoramas, with the drummer and the bass player Simone Nervoso do Vale, previously supported the press work of the group Planet Hemp. They borrowed the name of the common name in Brazil for Slot Cars, and the band has since grown accordingly allusions to children's toys and books, in addition to their distinct references to the pop culture symbolism of their influences. The name also alludes to the preference for old cars that cherishes example, singer Gabriel, who owns a Cougar Convertible.

Nervoso left the band before their first appearance in 1998. For him, the former Planet Hemp drummer Bacalhau came into the group. This was replaced in turn by Nervoso in the band Acabou La Tequlia ( the famous musician Kassin ) Curiously, 1994. The live performances and CD and Vinyl releases of Autoramas received the attention of the music scene and, increasingly, the music press of the country, compared with B52s, Devo or the Jovem Guarda and Yéyé groups. In 2001, she played among others at the Rock in Rio Festival with Mudhoney and the Pixies, which further increased its notoriety. As a consequence of their publications and their performances increased, they also led to foreign countries. So they played a successful 2002 tour of Japan with Guitar Wolf. Since then, the group has also toured Europe several times. 2005 won the Autoramas three awards at the MTV Music Awards in Brazil.

2008 Flávia came as a bassist in the band, and thus replaced from Selma. This was replaced in 2004, the founding bassist Simone. Flávia previously played in the Underground Rios in numerous garage bands, and is parallel to the Autoramas also singer and guitarist of the company founded by her in 2006 female garage trio As Doidivinas.

In 2009, she played for MTV Brasil, an acoustic concert with numerous guests, including the producer and Barao Vermelho - known musician Roberto Frejat. The performance was released after his charisma as CD and DVD. In 2011, Autoramas on a new album that they financed with the help of their fans in the crowdfunding model.
