Bačkov, Trebišov District

Bačkov (Hungarian Bacskó ) is a town in eastern Slovakia, with a population of 638 (as at 31 December 2011) and is located in Okres Trebišov, kraj a circle of Košice.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northern part of the East Slovak Lowland by the stream Backovsky creek, in the shadow of the western mountain range lying Slanské Hills, at an altitude of 200 m nm The center is located five kilometers north of Sečovce and 31 kilometers east of Kosice.

History

Bačkov was first mentioned in 1320 as Bachkow writing, first traces of settlement date back to the 8th and 9th centuries. The town developed as a settlement in the territory of two castles: the older castle Braničev until the 14th century and the newer castle Bačkov which lasted until the end of the 17th century. 1828 are listed 91 houses and 670 inhabitants.

During the Battle of the nearby Dargovpass in November 1944 the place burned down completely.
