From the train station bathroom the little distance to the east runs, first on the north shore of Lake Schwerin, through forests and lakes rich areas. Before Blankenberg station the route of the 1998 set Wismar - Karow train crosses the line. The Wismar - Karower railway station is situated south of the main railway station. Near the railway station Warnow, closed for passenger traffic, the valley of the river of the same is achieved. The route turns to the northeast. After situated just outside the town's train Biitzow branches from a distance in the direction Güstrow. Another route leads south from Güstrow one of the station Schwaan. Behind Schwaan the Warnow is again crossed. Before Rostock branches off the old route from the Friedrich-Franz Railway Station. The curve to the central station is the only single-track section of the track and is performed in parallel with the track from the direction Neustrelitz / Ticino.

History

Background and construction

1846 was the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg -Schwerin with the Berlin- Hamburg Railway its first rail connection. Then immediately began the construction of a compound of Hagenow along this route to the four largest cities in the country, Schwerin, Wismar, Rostock and Güstrow. On 1 May 1847 Section Hagenow -Schwerin was opened on July 12, 1848 followed by the extension to Wismar. When choosing the route to Rostock and Güstrow they decided to leave the track until the little railway station (now bath small ) branch. It meant a certain detour, but spared the costly construction of a dam by the Lake Schwerin. To finance the railway a State aid of 700,000 thalers was granted.

On May 13, 1850, the route bath small -Rostock was taken with a branch line of Biitzow to Güstrow in operation. The train station in Rostock was southeast of the Steintors near the river Warnow. The city decided to name it after the reigning Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II Friedrich-Franz Railway Station. The station building was until 1853 in operation.

Initially, two pairs of trains a day perverse between Rostock and Hagenow that held in Schwaan, Bützow, Blankenberg, small and Schwerin. Between Wismar and little or Güstrow and Biitzow three pairs of trains traveled as a feeder.

Development to 1945

In the following years the network was further expanded. With the extension of the railway line to Güstrow to Neubrandenburg and Stettin ( 1864-1867 ) and the construction of the railway Lübeck- Bad Little (1870 ) was an east -west connection from Hamburg to Szczecin, who used this route between bath small and Biitzow. 1905 five pairs of passenger wrong there and a fast pair ( in the summer months by a reinforced Zusatzzug ), primarily on the East-West route. After Rostock and Warnemünde there were coaches.

In Rostock, the situation changed with the construction of the railway Lloyd Neustrelitz -Warnemünde 1886, which got its own railway station. As the situation with two different stations was unattractive in the city, it was decided to handle the total passenger on the Lloyd Station, later called Rostock Hauptbahnhof. 1896 the trains from Biitzow were led into this station. The old Friedrich-Franz Railway Station served since 1905 as well as a combination of Stralsund was created in the main train station, only to freight. Important for the track was also the reconstruction of the station Warnemünde in 1903 and the establishment of a direct ferry- to Gedser (Denmark). Henceforth perverted direct trains Hamburg- Rostock- Copenhagen, partly to Stockholm and Oslo.

1934 operated on the total distance two D- train pairs ( with an additional amplifier in the summer ) Hamburg- Scandinavia, a Eilzugpaar Rostock- Uelzen, an accelerated passenger Rostock Lübeck and in summer a fast train Rostock- Leipzig. Between Bad Small and Biitzow a D and a Eilzugpaar ( with shuttle to Rostock ) Hamburg -Stettin were added.

Between 1945 and 1990

After 1945, the traffic flows have changed appreciably by the demarcation. The east- west connection was thus insignificant. Was more important to connect in Rostock towards the south. After the portion Rostock- Biitzow had been dismantled in 1945 as war reparations, it was rebuilt in the following years. Here, the reconstruction of the section Rostock - Schwaan propaganda marketed in 1948 as one of the first objects of the FDJ youth. On 5 October 1952 the section was Schwaan - Biitzow again.

Plans of 1957 saw the construction of a rail yard in the area Dalwitzhof in the south of Rostock. With the construction of the Rostock seaport was taken from these plans distance, and built the rail yard in this area. The track won in the following decades both for passenger and freight transport (especially for the port of Rostock ) is becoming increasingly important. 1973-1975, the route was again expanded to double track. In the 1980s reversed in summer to express ten pairs between Rostock and Magdeburg, most continue to Leipzig and Erfurt. There was also a interzonal via Lübeck to Hamburg, a fast train Rostock -Schwerin and some passenger trains.

After the oil crisis in the 1970s, the early 1980s by the Deutsche Reichsbahn was driven forward the electrification of the routes. During the section Schwaan -Rostock was already electrified forth until May 1985 by Gustrow, the catenary is only 1986/87 taken on the remaining section into operation. The erected for the occasion in the train station of Bad little memorial stone has now been removed and is now in the possession of the Mecklenburg Schwerin railway enthusiasts eV

After 1990

After the fall of the wall, a number of additional trains in the direction of Hamburg were introduced. In the first half of the 1990s, inter-regional lines Stralsund, Rostock- Hamburg and Rostock -Leipzig wrong each every two hours. The connection to Leipzig in the mid- 1990s, rejected in favor of an intermediate airport bathroom small and later replacement (up to a seasonal Intercity).

After the German reunification, the line was expanded as part of the 242 km long German Unity Transport Project No. 1 ( Lübeck / Hagenow country -Rostock - Stralsund ). In Schwerin Hauptbahnhof train platforms were extended and equipped with an electronic signal box from which also the section from Hagenow land is controlled to Bad kids. The modernization of the line was originally to be completed in May 1999.

This expansion is, however, up to the present time (as of spring 2012 ) has not yet been completed. First, the sections Ventschow - Blankenberg and Warnow Schwaan ( south exit of the station ) to 160 km / h were expanded. End of 2008, the section between Blankenberg and Warnow followed ( together with the local Warnow bridge). This is now almost 45 km of the 71 km route at a speed of 160 km / h passable.

Current situation

The trunk is used over entire length of regional express trains on the Rostock- Hamburg ( Hanseatic Express) every two hours. Also every two hours run intercity trains of the line ( Binz ) Stralsund, Rostock, Schwerin and Hamburg and on to West or West Germany. Almost all intercity trains stop on this route except in Rostock only in Biitzow, the regional express trains in Schwaan, Blankenberg, Ventschow and bath small. Between Biitzow and bath small also wrong, also every two hours, the regional express line Szczecin -Lübeck stopping in Blankenberg and Ventschow. The section Rostock- Schwaan is also used by the trains of Rostock S-Bahn ( with stops at all intermediate stations ) and trains Rostock- Berlin ( without a stop along the way on this route ). The timetable change in December 2008, the bath small station as IC maintenance was largely abandoned. Only an early connection to Hamburg and the IC to Leipzig or Warnemünde hold still there.
