Bahía Honda ( Eng.: " Deep Bay " ) is a city and a municipality in the province of Artemisa. Until 31 December 2010, Bahía Honda belonged to the province of Pinar del Río. In the municipality of 43,483 people living in an area of approximately 784 square kilometers, which corresponds to a population density of 55.4 inhabitants per square kilometer.

It was named after the bay on which it lies. To the north is the municipality by the Gulf of Mexico, to the east by the municipality of Mariel ( Artemisa Province ), bounded on the west by La Palma and the south by the Municipalities of Candelaria and San Cristóbal.

The region was originally settled indigenous hunters, gatherers and fishermen until the Spanish arrived. 1509 the bay was named by the explorer Sebastian de Ocampo in the name Bahía Honda.

1903, the city and the bay were leased to the United States, who set up a naval base here. Unlike the second U.S. acreage Guantanamo Bay, it was returned to Cuba in 1912.
