Bajo Aragón-Caspe/Baix Aragó-Casp

Bajo Aragón - Caspe ( katalan. Baix Arago - Casp to German Niederaragonien - Caspe ) is a Comarca (administrative unit ) of the Aragon Autonomous Community in Spain. It lies in the southeast of the province of Zaragoza and has an area of 997 km ² 12,604 inhabitants. The capital is Caspe, the largest of the six associated communities.

The Comarca was created in 2003 when the original Comarca Matarraña was divided into the Comarcas Matarraña, Bajo Aragón and Bajo Aragón - Caspe. Bajo Aragón - Caspe is bordered to the west by the Comarcas Ribera Baja del Ebro and Bajo Martín, on the north by the Monegros and Bajo Cinca, on the east by the provinces of Lleida and Tarragona, and on the south by the Comarcas Matarraña and Bajo Aragón.

Besides Caspe include the communities Chiprana, Fabara, Fayón, Maella and Nonaspe the Comarca.

The economy is dominated by agriculture, especially the cultivation of olives and the production of olive oil.

In the Comarca, between the municipalities of Caspe and Chiprana, is the dam of Mequinenza, called because of his size and Sea of Aragon ( mar de Aragón ).

Some of the areas of the comarca is bilingual: Municipalities Fabara, Fayón, Maella and Nonaspe have a majority of bilingual Catalan- and Spanish- speaking population. They belong to the so-called Franja de Aragón, the bilingual Catalan-Aragonese border area. The residents of Caspe and Chiprana however, the majority speak only the Spanish language ( castellano ).
