The Okres Banská Bystrica ( German district Banská Bystrica ) is an administrative unit in central Slovakia with 111 419 inhabitants ( 2004) and an area of 809 km ².

Historically, the district is located entirely within the former county Sohl (see also List of historic counties of Hungary ).
