Barbara Sobotta

Barbara Sobotta ( born December 4, 1936 in Poznan, † November 20, 2000 in Kraków ) was a Polish sprinter. It started up in 1956 under her birth name Barbara Lerczak; after her first marriage, she joined in 1958 and 1960 as Barbara Janiszewska. Sobotta took each part three times at European Championships and Olympic Games. The 1.63 meter tall athlete won from 1953 to 1963 ten Polish Championships in the 200 -meter run and four titles in the 100 -meter run.

Life

At the European Championships in Berne in 1954 it was as Barbara Lerczak in 24.4 seconds over 200 meters Fourth, in the 100 - meter dash in 12.2 seconds she was disqualified from the semi-finals. In the 4 x 100 meters relay she finished with the Polish team in 47.1 seconds in fifth place.

In Melbourne at the Olympic Games in 1956 she left about 100 meters and in the relay of each in the flow. About 200 meters they reached the semifinals, but could not qualify for the final in 25.2 seconds.

The Polish courier was 46.0 seconds behind the third seasons of the Soviet Union and the United Kingdom.

1960 at the Olympic Games in Rome, she finished second in 24.8 seconds in fifth place over 200 meters, after running 24.2 seconds in the lead and 23.9 seconds in the semifinals. With the Polish relay won in 45.0 seconds behind the bronze teams from the U.S. and Germany.

At the European Championships 1962 in Belgrade, she was in third 23.9 seconds over 200 meters behind the German Jutta Heine and the British Dorothy Hyman, who won the 100-meter title. In the season finale featured the Polish women in the cast Teresa Ciepły, Barbara Sobotta, Elzbieta Szyroka and Maria Piatkowska with 44.5 seconds a European record, before the Germans and the British women who ran each national record.

Your last major appearance was Barbara Sobotta 1964 at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. In 23.9 seconds she finished sixth in the 200 -meter final. In the Polish courier, she was not involved in their Olympic victory. In its common position on the backstretch was the young Irena Kirszenstein.

After their marriages with the pole vaulters Zbigniew Janiszewski and the vaulter Piotr Sobotta, she married the actor Jan Nowicki. Following her playing career, she directed a theater café in Krakow.
