Barbican tube station

Barbican is a London Underground station in the City of London. It is located on Aldersgate Street in the vicinity of the Cultural Centre Barbican Centre. History

The station was opened on December 23, 1865 by the Metropolitan Railway ( predecessor company of the Metropolitan Line), at that time still under the name of Aldersgate Street. This was followed by three name changes: On November 1, 1910 in Aldersgate, 1923 in Aldersgate & Barbican and on December 1, 1968 in Barbican. Since 1866 the leading through the station of the Metropolitan Railway route is four tracks. After completion of the Crossrail project, the construction of a commuter train tunnel in east-west direction, the eastern entrance to the new underground station just west of Farringdon Station Barbican will come to rest.
