Baselios Cleemis

Baselios Cleemis Cardinal Thottunkal, even Isaac Mar Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal ( born June 15, 1959 in Tirumoola, Mukkoor, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala ), is the current Major Archbishop of Trivandrum ( Thiruvananthapuram seat in ) and head of the Syro -Malankara united with Rome Church. He leads the honorary title of His Beatitude ( His Beatitude ).

Life

The baptismal name of the Cardinal is Isaac, he comes from the archeparchy Tiruvalla in the Indian state of Kerala and is the son of the late Thomas Christians Malankara Mathew and Annamma Thottunkal. His ancestors came from the family Pakalomattam which traditionally provided the Erzdiakone the Thomas Christians earlier. First Thottunkal visited 1976-1979 small seminars in Tiruvalla from 1979 to 1982, the Pontifical Seminary in Alwaye and that from 1983 to 1986 in Pune.

On 11 June 1986 Baselios Thottunkal was ordained a priest by the then Bishop of the Eparchy of Battery, Cyril Mar Baselios Malancharuvil. They sent him to the Dharmaram College, Bangalore, where in 1988 he earned his master's degree in theology. At the same time, he worked in the city as malankarischer pastor. Between 1991 and 1996 studied at the Angelicum Baselios Thottunkal in Rome, where he received his doctorate in 1997. On his return to India he became the spiritual director of the seminary, then Vicar General (proto Syncellus ) of the Eparchy of Battery.

On 18 June 2001, Pope John Paul II to the clergy as Auxiliary Bishop of archeparchy of Trivandrum which also acts as a permanent Apostolic visitator was connected for the Syro -Malankara faithful in North America and Europe. His episcopal ordination took place on 15th August in Tiruvalla, also by Cyril Mar Baselios Malancharuvil which he assumed the additional name Mar Cleemis.

2003 appointed bishop of the Eparchy you Thottunkal of Tiruvalla and with its elevation to archeparchy to her first Metropolitan Archbishop.

After the death of Major Archbishop Cyril Mar Baselios Malancharuvil he was elected on 8 February 2007 by the Holy Synod of the Syro -Malankara Church and his successor Pope Benedict XVI. two days after confirmed. The ceremonial enthronement took place on 3 March 2007.

On October 24, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI. known that he wanted to create him on 24 November 2012 for the Cardinal. In the consistory of November 24 of the same year he took him a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Gregorio VII to the College of Cardinals. He is the world's youngest living Cardinal. In March 2013 he participated in the conclave of 2013, and there he was the youngest member.

Since 2013 he has been Chairman of the Bishops 'Conference of Kerala ( Kerala Catholic Bishops ' Council ( KCBC ) ).
