Bataraza, Palawan

Bataraza is a Philippine municipality in the province of Palawan.

Bataraza is named after Datu Bataraza Narrazid, an influential local Muslim chieftain and father of the first mayor of Brooke 's Point Datu Sapiodin Narrazid. Bataraza belonged until 1964 to the Municipality of Brooke 's Point.

Most important sources of income are agriculture, fisheries, and nickel mining and processing.

Geography

Bataraza is located at the southern tip of Palawan Island about 236 km from Puerto Princesa and 775 km from Manila. The municipality extends about 80 km in the north -east direction to the Balabacstraße.

In the east it borders Sulu Sea, to the west is a large mountain range, the way to Mount Malitub extends from Mount Mantalingahan, the highest peak of the province, where is the line to township Rizal. Twenty miles off the coast of the municipality, in the South, lies the well-known among ornithologists Ursula Iceland Game Refuge and Bird Sanctuary. To the west lies the South China Sea.

Rio Tuba is one of the barangays inhabited and known for its nickel ore. From Rio Tuba also most of the domestically located barangays can be reached. The nickel mining is very important for the place the most important nickel mine in the Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation is located within its boundaries.
